For my theme, I think my project can fit into both "fantasy" and "amusement". It's a fantasy for me because I have always dreamt of traveling, especially to somewhere like Paris and seeing the Eiffel Tower. I think it could also fit into the category of amusement because traveling is a source of entertainment for me and its something I enjoy to do. I choose to represent Paris with the Eiffel Tower because that's one of the things it's widely known for. I was going to add a map print in the background to further represent the idea of travel but I unfortunately ran out of time to do this. For my project I start with a base of gesso to add a little bit of texture. Then I got the idea to add tissue paper down and to paint water down to make the color leak into the page. I used colors like pink, blue and purple to create a cool-like color scheme and I think it blended together really well. I then printed out a picture of the Eiffel Tower and cut it out and used gel medium to put it on my page. I then did the tissue paper color method again to make sure it blended in with the background and made sure their was no rough edges. In the end, I think this is my favorite project we have done this semester and I think my final turned out really well. If I was to change anything I would add more to the background and do it on a canvas instead of regular white paper.
When I first heard we were doing a collage I figured it was just things pilled on top of one another and didn't really have to make sense. I think my two practices represent this, because when I look at it I have no clue what kind of image I was trying to go for. I used tissue paper, ribbon, and wrapping paper but I did not utilize it the best I could. I know my practices don't have balance or unity. One thing I think I did represent in my practices is the uses of different textures (rough/smooth). The purple tissue paper is more a rough texture while the wrapping paper is a smooth texture. The ribbon shows different line thinness and thickness and also represent different colors. My practices lack a lot of value and variety. If I was to redo my practices I think I would try to come up with an idea and actually represent it with different medias. I would come up with theme instead of just guleing random things on to my paper. Overall, I think my final shows much more improvement and understanding of mix media. For this project, I choose to do scales up close. I liked the ideas of the blue green colors and I thought it would look really nice. My media I choose was oil pastels because I thought the colors would look nice against the black paper. My biggest challenge in this project was blending the colors all together to hide the black paper underneath. I think this is my favorite project we have done so far and I'm proud of how it came out. If I was to redo it I would blend the colors neater and make my scales look more realistic and less abstract. For this project, the most challenging part was the painting of the clay. I found it difficult to match the color of the fruit onto the actual clay itself. I decided to make fruit salad, because I thought the colors and texture would look cool on clay. Another challenge I had durning this project was making the bowl to hold the fruit. It came out very uneven and I didn't like how it looked. My favorite part of the project was actually making the clay fruit and creating the texture. When I made my strawberry, I poked small holes into it to create the texture of it. It looked very realistic especially with the paint. The most challenging of the three mediums, for me was working with the colored pencils. I had a hard time making the actual shape of the lollipop and the wrapper. The shading was hard for me to accomplish with the prisma colors. I enjoyed working with the oil pastels the most because they make it easy to blend colors together and create different values. The piece I think I did the best on is the mint, I think I did good on the shape and the values. If I was to redo all of these I would try to represent the values and shape of the wrappers better. For my style project, I had the artist Alexander Calder. Although he is most famous for his mobile structures, he did have some famous paintings as well. In his paintings he did a lot of simple shapes and with that I decided to do a flower. My use of vertical stripes in the background, is something Calder did often. I used solid colors instead of different shades of values because Calder did this in all his paintings. I think that my painting came out well, the only thing I didn't like was that my lines did not come out straight and look a little messy. I like my use of complimentary colors with the purple and yellow. Originally I was going to represent Calder's style with a peacock but I went with a flower because I thought it was something I could keep and hang in my room. I choose to do birdhouses because I saw a picture I liked on pintrest and wanted to recreate it. In art one, I didn't enjoy doing perspective but after I learned more about it and understood it more I did enjoy drawing in perspective. If I was to redo my project I would make my lines more straight and less messy. I think I did a good job with adding value and showing two point perspective. I think that the fence, bush and tree in the background make it more realistic and feel more like real picture drawn. My favorite thing about my whole drawing is the little bird on the middle birdhouse because even though it's a small detail I think it adds to the picture. Overall I think I did good job and I have improved from art one already. |
